Senior ladies progress to Connacht final

The Dunmore Community School ladies continue to go from strength to strength. Not only does a Connacht final loom next Thursday for our Junior girls, but the Senior girls have just secured their spot in their Connacht final this afternoon against Colaiste Iognaid (the Jes) in Kilmaine.
These ladies proved they are a force to be reckoned with and left the opposition aghast with some serious defensive skills, excellent support play and some decisive shooting. Half-time left us 2-6 to 1-2 to the good after the Jes started the scoring off with a strong charge from the throw-in, but it wasn’t long until our ladies retaliated. However, Dunmore were slow to get into the game and left many shooting chances behind them, twice hitting the ball directly at the keeper and twice hitting the side of the net. The last ten minutes before half-time our ladies were starting to find their flow and momentum.
Second half saw our girls dominate possession and tag on the first few scores without response, the next two scores from the Jes came from questionable frees. A goal caught us off guard from what was a predominately superb defensive effort, but we returned in kind, winning our kickout and working the ball up to ensure it found the back of the opposition’s net.
The teamwork was phenomenal. Some passing didn’t go our way, but the girls showed great heart, determination and fight until the bitter end. There was great team spirit and encouragement, with turnovers being won all over the field. The girls must be commended on not only a brilliant game but a brilliant season to date. They have been putting great effort in, there is great comradery amongst younger and older, and they are being rewarded justly, winning all their games comfortably to date. Final score was Dunmore CS 3-13, Colaiste Iognaid (The Jes) 2-5. A warm thank you to those who travelled to support the ladies today. Great to hear the words of encouragement which no doubt drive the ladies on.
Onwards we march to the Connacht final, which looks like it will be played late January. We should know our opposition in the next week or two.
We would like to wish our Junior ladies the best of luck in their Connacht final next week against Headford in Bekan Centre of Excellence pitch 1 at 11.30 on Thursday the 14th of December. All support more than welcome for these amazing bunch of women. Link to tickets will be published once available.
A huge thank you to our sponsors Knightbuild, the jerseys (designed by LC student and player Alicia Costello) have surely been proving themselves lucky, as we have yet to lose a game since we received them, as well as the girls looking the business. Thank you sincerely for your support!
