Junior Girls football V Claremorris
On Thursday 23rd September Dunmore played Mount Saint Michael in the first match of the Junior girls league. . Everyone arrived at 10:30 and did a great warm-up with some of the TY boys and Ms. Grehan. The throw-in was at 11:05 and Mount Saint Michael got the first point. Dunmore soon scored as well with Isabelle Murray scoring the first goal of the match. Mount Saint Michael then scored 3 goals and 3 points to the disappointment of Dunmore. Dunmore scored a point & then got a penalty after a foul in the box, Katie Slattery secured a great goal for Dunmore by placing the ball in the corner of the net. After this the referee called for a water break. Soon after play resumed, Mount Saint Michael scored another point. Immediately after this Rebecca Noone scored a point to restore Dunmore’s spirits. Excellent defending from Emma Concannon meant Mount Saint Michael did not score another goal & our goal keeper Ella Burns was superb.Grace Dooley scored a goal for Dunmore with some great forward play. Ciara Farrell showed some amazing defending and kept Mount Saint Michael from scoring a goal, but they did score a point. Just before half time Mount Saint Michael scored a goal and kept their lead. Very soon after play resumed Rebecca Noone scored an amazing point, but Mount Saint Michael retaliated with a goal. Rebecca Noone then scored another point from a free and Mount Saint Michael scored a point also. Isabella Murray put up a brilliant attack but was very unlucky and her efforts went wide. Mount Saint Michael scored a point and Katie Slattery was also very unlucky with the counterattack and missed. Grace Dooley and Rebecca Noone then scored 2 points in quick succession but Mount Saint Michael scored a point too. The referee then called for another water break after this. After play resumed Mount Saint Michael scored 2 points and Grace Dooley was very unlucky with her counterattack. Soon after Rebecca Noone scored a beautiful point. Mount Saint Michael then scored four goals. Despite this disappointment, Dunmore never gave up and Grace Dooley and Rebecca Noone retaliated and scored 2 points. After a tough challenge in the box Katie Slattery was awarded a penalty and she stepped up to take it herself. She scored a great goal. But alas Dunmore were not to win this game. Our Dunmore girls played brilliantly but came up against a very strong Claremorris side. Dunmore scored some excellent points and some spectacular goals, and they never gave up and pushed until the final whistle. Our defenders never gave up with great defensive work from our goalie Ellen Burns, our sweeper Emma Heneghan & Emma Concannon. Our midfield duo Isabelle Murray & Katie Slattery worked tirelessly.
