On Tuesday 5th October, the Junior Dunmore Girls played Ballyhaunis. Throw in was at 11:02 and Dunmore opened strong with Rebecca Noone scoring the first point of the match. Grace Dooley soon scored the first goal of the game and Isabelle Murray scored a point. Rebecca Noone was then denied a goal by the Ballyhaunis goalie Grainne Waldron but scored a point. The referee then called for a water break. After play resumed, Ballyhaunis opened strong but were denied a goal by the Dunmore goalie Ella Burns. Soon after this Saoirse Hunter scored a point, Isabelle Murray scored a goal and Rebecca Noone scored a point. After this an amazing attack from Rebecca Noone was denied by the Ballyhaunis goalie but Grace Dooley, Katie Slattery, and Rebecca Noone all scored a point. Soon after this Rebecca Noone scored a point and the referee called for halftime. Play resumed at 11:43 and Ballyhaunis scored 2 goals with Katie Madden and Laoise Greally. Rebecca Noone scored a point but a tough tackle injured Ciara Farrell but she powered through the pain and played the rest of the match. Katie Slattery and Grace Dooley both scored a point but Katie Madden scored a point for Ballyhaunis. Grace Dooley and Rebecca Noone then scored a point each before the referee called for another water break. Play resumed at 12:05 and Rebecca Noone scored two points. Sinead O’Neill then scored a striking goal for Ballyhaunis. Isabelle Murray, Grace Dooley, and Rebecca Noone then all scored a point before the referee called full time. Both teams played excellently but, in the end, victory was ours. This was the first ever school victory for some of the girls playing football. Even during the pouring rain at the end of the match our Dunmore girls kept on scoring and the final score was Dunmore 3:20 to Ballyhaunis 3:01. Congrats girls on your amazing win and we hope there are many more wins to come in the rest of the season!
