DCS wins Junior B GAA County final
Our Junior lads secured the title after a very dramatic finish in the NUIG Connacht GAA Airdome. (3-14 to 4-10) We took the lead against our opponents, Garbally College early in the first half. But, some missed chances allowed them back in the game. The game was full of excitement and there was nothing between the teams. Garbally took the lead and held this lead right through the second half. Each time DCS reduced the deficit, Garbally would add on another score. But in the last few minutes, DCS gathered momentum, led by their captain Robert Heneghan and surged forward. A dramatic goal by Niall Heneghan secured the one point lead but still the referee did not blow the whistle. Garbally came at us again. The hard working Barry Murray overturned their possession and the final whistle blew. It was a huge victory for our school and every player put in a huge effort. Christopher Donlon in goals kept his nerve with pressure coming at all times. Dylan Connolly put in some great stops in fullback and was well supported by Finian Cronin & Robert Glynn. The hard working duo of Ruairi Walkin and Robert Heneghan dominated midfield. Sean Carr, Niall Heneghan & Padraig Martyn worked tirelessly in the forward line . This team overcame St. Mary’s College, Colaiste na Coirbe and Headford to get to the final. . Congrats to all of them and Ms Grehan on their great victory. This team will now look forward to the Championship in March.
