U15 Girls are crowned Connacht Soccer Champions
Congratulations to our U15 Girls Soccer team and their management Ms. Grehan and Shanaz Saman on their historic win today in the Connacht final. The girls travelled to Lecarrow Roscommon to take on Abbey Community School. It was a lovely setting for the girls but there was a very strong wind which the girls had to play against in the first half. Abbey CC had some fantastic players who kept driving at Dunmore continuously but they were unable to get past our defensive line of Ava Burke, Shannon Kilgarriff , Katie Kilgarrif and Nadine Donnellan. Lily Kearney moved from her normal striking role into the back line to help stop the dynamic runs and she give great support to our defence. Our midfielders never stopped working throughout the whole game. Their tough tackles and skillful passes drove our team on. Goals from Lily Concannon and Chloe Costello in the second half secured our victory. Eva Daly crossed a great ball from a corner and Lily got on to the end of it and blasted it to the net. Nadine’s sideline throw set up Chloe for her goal. Erika Diskin worked tirelessly upfront and constantly put Abbey under pressure. Laoise Ray fought hard to get Dunmore on the attack. Our superb keeper Rebecca McGrath has kept a clean sheet throughout the entire competition to-date. She put off a great safe in the second half. A goal would have allowed Abbey back in to the game. The cup was presented to our captain fantastic Megan Healy. Megan has really led by example in all of our games. The girls will play in the All-Ireland semi-final next Tuesday where they will take on the Munster Champions. Many thanks to all the girls and parents who travelled to support us today.
