Transition Year Bank
Transition Years in Dunmore Community School run a very successful school bank in co-operation with Bank of Ireland Dunmore.
Transition Year School Bank by Colin Comer
Our Transition Year School Bank all started when the local bank manager Joyce Delaney came into the school and told us about the transition year school bank programme. With the help of the bank and Ms. Scarry our students decided to set up a school bank.
A number of students applied for various positions for the school bank. They typed out their letters of application and decided on the positions they would be most suited to. Next the students who applied went for interviews down in the bank with Ms. Scarry, Joyce Delaney and bank official Bríd Raftery. The students chosen were Emer Meehan (Bank Manager), Leah Noone (Audit Account Manager), Emma Davis (Digital Manager), Aoife Sheehy (Junior Marketing Manager) and Colin Comer (Senior Marketing Manager). They had weekly meetings with Joyce, Bríd and Ms. Scarry and it was decided to try and get 25 students to sign up to the school bank. Transition Year would then receive €250.
Mayo footballer and Student Liaison Officer Keith Higgins came in to help open the bank. This was a very successful first day and we were confident about reaching our 25 students. Each student had to lodge €5 to sign up to the bank. Over the next six weeks 25 students signed up and Bank of Ireland gave €250 to Transition Year.
