School Principal

As Principal of Dunmore Community School, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our school website; I hope you find it informative and a true reflection of life in our wonderful school.

Deep Energy Retrofit

2019

During the Summer of 2019, the school was chosen as a Pilot School for a comprehensive deep energy retrofit. The 1966 building was completely overhauled with new energy efficient windows and doors, new piping and radiators and 200mm external insulation to reduce heat loss. The whole school was refitted with an energy efficient gas heating system and thermostats to control the heating. We also had 19 solar panels installed to reduce our daytime electricity usage, and all our external lighting was replaced with LED to reduce night time usage.

New Extension Added

1999

The Community School is situated on the site of the Incarnate Word College. The original building was upgraded and a modern new extension was added; this work was completed in 1999. The new facilities were officially opened by Mr Michael Martin, Minister for Education and Science on November 29th 1999.

Dunmore Community School School Founded

1990

Dunmore Community School was founded in 1990 when the two secondary schools in Dunmore, the Incarnate Word College and St. Patrick’s Vocational School amalgamated. In 1925 the Sisters of the Incarnate Word College founded a novitiate in Dunmore. In 1967 the new school building was opened. The Incarnate Word Sisters continued to manage the College until 1979 when the order finally withdrew its sisters from Ireland to San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A. The Mercy Sisters then took over the management of the College.

1990

St. Patrick’s Vocational School,

1953

In 1953, St. Patrick’s Vocational School, the 1st second-level school in Dunmore was opened. With each decade extensions were opened. In 1962 the Metalwork Room was completed. In 1978 a recreational area and a newly equipped Secretarial Room was completed. In 1984 the final phase was added which consisted of three additional classrooms.
