St Brigid’s Day Fundraiser for Sr. Rose Kelly in Haiti
Students & Staff from Dunmore CS along with staff from Howley’s Eurospar came together to mark the Feast of St. Brigid (Feb. 01st) by organising a fundraiser to support the work of Castlebar native, Sr. Rose Kelly, who for many years has lived and worked in Haiti.
Haiti is considered to be one of the poorest countries in the World and Sr. Rose has worked there since the late 1990’s. She is a sister of the Jesus & Mary (Salerno) Order and her work is in a rural part of Haiti in a town called Jean Rabel. She supports many poor families by providing a wider variety of education and healthcare services. Many children come to school hungry and she also supports a mobile health service which can reach people unable to make it to a Health Centre.
The TY Students in Dunmore CS coordinated the Junior classes to make St. Brigid Crosses and these were then offered to the public at Howley’s Eurospar in return for a donation. We would sincerely like to thank the wider Community in Dunmore and Howley’s Eurospar for their support and also local PP Fr. Fergal for blessing the crosses at a special mass on St. Brigid’s Day. The amount raised was close to €1000.
We were delighted to receive a message of thanks and encouragement directly from Sr. Rose.
