Dunmore and Athlone faced off in a tight match last week with Dunmore edging out the win by one point in the end. Dunmore opened the scoring with a strong carry from Connor Mbaziira leading to Sean Burns scoring the first try. Athlone responded with two quick taps and try taking the lead 7-5. Athlone scored two further tries and a conversion for a 19-5 lead before Dunmore hit back with a try from Donal and a corner try from Sean Burns to make it 19-15 at half time. Dunmore maintained the pressure in the second half with a team effort try from Matthew in the corner followed by a hat trick from Sean Burns. Athlone kept fighting and almost took the lead in the dying minutes but a conversion attempt hit the top right post to leave the final score 24-25 to Dunmore. Well done to the Dunmore players who really dug deep for todays victory. A first of many.
