Irish Flag Raising 2023

Thursday 16th of March students in Dunmore Community School raised the Irish Flag in commemoration of Sir Thomas Francis Meagher.

On the 7th March 1848 Thomas Francis Meagher flew a tri-colour flag at the Wolfe Tone Club in Waterford city where it flew continuously for eight days and nights before being removed by the authorities.

‘The white in the centre signified a lasting truce between orange and green. I trust that beneath its folds the hands of the Irish Catholic and the Irish Protestant may be clasped in generous and heroic brotherhood.’ Thomas F. Meagher 3rd April 1848

The Thomas F. Meagher foundation was established in 2013 to promote pride in and respect for the Irish flag and the understanding of its symbolism and meaning for peace.

In particular among young people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, genders and sexual orientations to have pride in, respect for, and live the Irish tri-colour message of peace and inclusion.
