Deep Energy Retrofit Works eTender

Although the school will be closing for the summer break shortly, the school building will hopefully be busier than ever during the break as we are delighted to have finally reached the etender stage of our upcoming Deep Energy Retrofit. It is now available on https://www.etenders.gov.ie

All going well, and subject to budgets and the tendering process, during the summer we are going to see the 67 building, auditorium and canteen getting new windows & external doors, new piping & radiators and 200mm of external cladding insulating this building. The whole school will also be getting an energy efficient cascade Gas heating system installed to replace our aging inefficient oil fired heating system. The 2009 building will also have thermostatic valves incorporated into the existing system to allow for individual zoning of classrooms and common areas. We are also adding 2 draught lobbies to control heat loss from the building from the two main entrances to the building.

To further enhance our energy rating, we are also installing LED external lighting for the whole school grounds, which will complement the LED lighting we already have internally throughout the school. Hopefully, all of this work, plus the 19 Photovoltaic Panels will place our aging school building in an energy class comparable to many new builds.

We will be able to monitor and control our energy usage by a state of the art computerised Building Management System (BMS) and a simple traffic light system will show students and staff if our average energy usage is acceptable by showing green, amber or red.

Exciting green times ahead for DCS!
