2nd/3rd yr Business trip

On Tuesday, December 19th, our Business Studies students visited Byrne Mech factory in Athenry. We had first-hand experience of a real-life factory. They manufacture metal components for aeroplanes and all types of machines. They also make meter boxes. They distribute their finished products from as near as Northern Ireland to as far away as the Philippines. They win contracts depending on lead times to deliver to existing customers. We saw staff at work wearing their Personal Protective Equipment. We quickly realised how noisy a factory floor can be. We had to follow health and safety procedures at all times.  Ronan made a presentation to students in the conference room while the Health and Safety Officer gave us a guided tour of the two buildings.  A huge thank you to Ciaran Canny and his Dad, Eugene for making the factory visit possible.

We appreciate the Management of Byrne Mech for giving us the opportunity to visit their factory. We learnt a lot.
