Dunmore Community School would like to congratulate Brendan Carr, Shane McGrath and Conor Mitchell on making the Galway minor Panel and also to Darragh Heneghan who made the Roscommon Minor Panel.
The teams are playing against each other this evening at 7:30 in Hyde Park.
Dunmore Community School would also like to congratulate past students Darren O’ Malley, Andrew Glennon and Cathal Heneghan who performed recently for the Roscommon Senior football team against Leitrim in the Connacht Championship. DCS wishes them the very best of luck and a long summer of football!
Although the school will be closing for the summer break shortly, the school building will hopefully be busier than ever during the break as we are delighted to have finally reached the etender stage of our upcoming Deep Energy Retrofit. It is now available on https://www.etenders.gov.ie
All going well, and subject to budgets and the tendering process, during the summer we are going to see the 67 building, auditorium and canteen getting new windows & external doors, new piping & radiators and 200mm of external cladding insulating this building. The whole school will also be getting an energy efficient cascade Gas heating system installed to replace our aging inefficient oil fired heating system. The 2009 building will also have thermostatic valves incorporated into the existing system to allow for individual zoning of classrooms and common areas. We are also adding 2 draught lobbies to control heat loss from the building from the two main entrances to the building.
To further enhance our energy rating, we are also installing LED external lighting for the whole school grounds, which will complement the LED lighting we already have internally throughout the school. Hopefully, all of this work, plus the 19 Photovoltaic Panels will place our aging school building in an energy class comparable to many new builds.
We will be able to monitor and control our energy usage by a state of the art computerised Building Management System (BMS) and a simple traffic light system will show students and staff if our average energy usage is acceptable by showing green, amber or red.
Congrats to Aoife Sheehy (6th year) 400m Hurdles, Liam Healy (3rd Year) Mile & Caoimhe Herviaux(2nd Year) Discus who qualified for the All Ireland finals. Well done to all our students who qualified for the Connacht finals in Athlone IT. The All – Ireland’s take place in Tullamore on Sat 2nd June
Transition Year students enjoyed a lovely retreat at Ballintubber with teachers Ms Doyle and Ms Clesham. They participated in workshops and spiritual reflections with Fr Frank , Maeve and Colin. They thoroughly enjoyed three miles of the Tochar walk . It was a very successful day and great credit is due to the students on their respectful participation throughout the day . The hot chocolate and the goodies were well received by all!
Congratulations to our Skitts Intermediate Enterprise team who made it to the Student Enterprise Programme Final in Croke Park recently. They did an amazing job to get there. They came up with the idea of Skitts, a game which can be used in the Community Games Skittles Competition. They sold it to Community Games participants and schools. This highlights a great set of skills that will stand to the students in later life. A huge thank you to your mentors PJ Mullin and Gary Lowe from Whizzkids and to the Breda and Gillian in the Galway Enterprise Office for your support. Your teachers Mary Grehan and Anne Fallon really enjoyed working this fantastic team of students. You showed great confidence when interviewed by the Judges. Well done!
Yesterday our Transition Year class 4A conducted their Geographical Fieldstudy. It was made all the more enjoyable by the glorious temperature of 19 degrees on Silverstrand. Just fresh off the plane from the tour in Italy all the class were motivated to measure beach fabric, analyse beach slope and find wind and wave speed to name a few tasks. Well done to all of 4A and Ms. Canny & Ms. Maher for assisting.
Our TYs completed their golf lessons today in Dunmore Golf Club. Thanks to Dan O Connor, Assistant PGA Professional @danoconnorpga for the excellent advice and guidance provided to our students (and 1 or 2 staff). Special thanks also to Niall Cloonan, for his assistance and help in the organisation of the lessons.
