Regional Cross Country Championships

What a shocking day for Cross country!!! But, our brave teams faced the elements in the worst conditions ever experienced in the schools competition. The senior races were postponed due to the dangerous running conditions. Well done to all our runners today especially to Aoife Sheehy 3rd place in u17 & Emma Kelly 10th in u14. Results will be posted next week.

Transition Year Cansat

Congratulations to Team CAN-a-Bits (best video) and Team CAN-struction (most work done to date) who have succeeded in winning all categories of the preliminary round of the CANSAT competition hosted by GMIT.

CanSat is a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can. The challenge for the students is to fit all the major subsystems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors and a communication system, into this minimal volume. The CanSat is then launched by a rocket or dropped from a platform or captive balloon and its mission begins: to carry out a scientific experiment and achieve a safe landing.

CanSat offers a unique opportunity for students to have a practical experience of a real space project. They are responsible for all aspects: designing the CanSat, selecting its mission, integrating the components, testing, preparing for launch and then analysing the data.
