The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme can be described as a Leaving Certificate with a strong vocational dimension. It provides students with the opportunity to realise their potential for self-directed learning, for innovation and for enterprise.

The L.C.V.P. was introduced in response to the changing needs of Ireland's education system and the changing work and business environment. L.C.V.P. students must take at least five Leaving Certificate subjects. One of these subjects must be Irish. Currently L.C.V.P. students take between five and seven Leaving Certificate subjects plus three link modules on Enterprise Education, Preparation for Work and Work Experience.

L.C.V.P. students have the same opportunity to proceed to Universities and Colleges as students of the established leaving Certificate. The vocational dimension raises student awareness of and prepares them for, the world of work and study.

Employers are very enthusiastic about the L.C.V.P and sees its students as being generally more employable.
